Zeche Zollverein
Hall 5, Hall 6 und Hall 12
The Zollverein colliery, formerly the largest coal mine in the world, Europe's largest central coking plant and since 2001, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a masterpiece of industrial architecture and a completely preserved work of art. Hall 5, the former central workshop, contained the blacksmith's and locksmith's shops while Hall 6 housed the electrical workshop and, on the upper floor, service rooms and visitor facilities.
Today both halls are impressive event venues. Hall 12, the former coal sorting plant, now boasts a fully equipped event hall and numerous ancillary rooms on three levels. In the smaller hall on the upper floor, some of the original sorting machinery can still be seen behind a glass wall.
